Wasn’t it lovely having so much time to visit with our friends yesterday? Our English hosts entertained us with games and trivia. Brenda’s reading of her favorite Wordsworth poem was heartfelt and enhanced the atmosphere. Janet and Graham entertained us with their long list of different meanings for the same words from “two countries separated by a common language” with friendly kibitzing from Canadian member, Pam Hughes. The extensive list compiled by members for Brenda’s game listing “Landmarks of England” highlighted how closely our members are acquainted with the United Kingdom.
Dave Ellis, with encouragement from Yvonne, was an excellent master of ceremonies. The games and entertainment would not have been possible without Mike Cunningham’s expertise in hooking up the restaurant’s “broken” microphone!
Our British Pub luncheon offered us challenges but many members stepped up while we “visited” with our friends. We were grateful when our newly elected Vice President, Jackie Schmidt, came to our tables with pitchers of water, she and many others helped the wait staff. Jackie has a knack for seeing what needs to be done and steps up to do it. Tom Bellehumeur discussed our upcoming April luau and Sheri Perkins asked for help with May’s Country/Western event which is still in its planning stage. We can always count on Sheri to fill some time!
