Our party was a smashing success, it appeared everyone had a good time! I’ve been told the party in general was great but the “How Well Do You Know Your Partner” game was the high point of the afternoon! I have to say Mike Cunningham was at his most flamboyant. Who knew he could host so well, not me? Mike and I had a discussion about “reading the room” and not getting too “out there” and I think Mike and his golfing buddy, Tim McDonald, touched that line and possibly stretched it a little! I was holding my breath hoping that they would rein it in just a little and thank goodness they did! The four contestant couples: Dianna & Larry Davis, Bernadette & Alan Fedorovich, Pam Hughes & Tim MacDonald, and Marilyn & Jack Martin were a hoot – don’t we have the best members?
Our hosts for the party: Lori & John Jacobsen and Linda & Orrin Johnson did a great job! Their contribution to the party consistently increased as the guest list expanded! There were more trips to the store for additional supplies, scrapping game plans and adjusting the room set-up to accommodate over 80 members – the largest group we’ve hosted so far! John and Orrin were very appreciated for meeting members at the door to help transport the food on the long journey to our party rooms.
Our biggest challenge was space as we were originally scheduled for only the Nottingham room with a capacity of 56 while another group was using the Canterbury room. Through negotiations between Donnette in the clubhouse, the Mahjongg for Fun” group and the Midwest Club we were able to work out a deal that pleased everyone. We thank the Mahjongg group for being so gracious. Susan O’Dell, leader of the group, was very accommodating and was in awe of how fast our group cleaned up and cleared out of the room! Thinking about it, herself being from the Midwest, we realized of course we would get the job done no muss, no fuss – most of us are Midwesterners!
Our new Vice President, Jackie Schmidt and her husband, Kirt, were in attendance after being elected last month to the vacant position (with her prior consent) while they were away on a long cruise. We were very glad to have her ability to see what needs to be done to help out and get it done!
Winnie Metz and Karen DeFontes kept their cool in the arrival rush while accepting 2024 dues and issuing “Cupid name tags”. These ladies and Pam Alvord, the club’s Treasurer, who wasn’t able to attend yesterday, are very important to the success of the club. They are always eager to help and do a great job keeping our membership list accurate, money accounted for and events running smoothly. They are there every meeting in the background quietly helping make our club efficient.
We also thank our photographer, Marian Knorr and her substitute, Ron Hand who fills in for Marian when she is traveling. They spend much of each party “working” and then “working” again with Mike to be sure we choose good photos for the Royal Times and our website “KRMidwest.com” You will find a gallery of all the photos below.
We officially crowned Sheri Perkins as our “Social Events Coordinator”; she’s been acting in this capacity forever, at least as long as Mike and I have been members. We aren’t always blessed with her attendance since she and husband Dennis are often cruising or running around the country in their motorhome. I’m often asked by new members who was that very nice blond lady who made us feel so welcome? My answer is “that’s our allusive Sheri Perkins!”
Also, thanks to all you members we have the best “Pot Lucks” in Kings Ridge! Our members are such great cooks and bakers, this month we’re starting something new, “The Concoction of the Month” a favorite recipe from our recent events. This month our choice is Bernadette Fedorovich’s Amazing Salad click here for the recipe.
Amazingly you all LIKE to prepare pot luck dishes – we are blessed with tasty food and massive variety! Sheri told me this last year at my first meeting as President, you can count on this group for the excellent food at every Pot Luck party!
