Our Midwest Club celebrated Heritage Day, which was suggested and hosted by member Forrest Coleman. Some members dressed with accents from traditional clothing.
We showcased our luncheon by bringing a traditional dish featuring recipes handed down from our ancestors.
Some displayed their interesting cultural memorabilia and explained their significance to their family. One particularly moving story was shared by Bill Stitch who was a child in Honolulu on the day of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He brought an American Flag that had been flown over the battleship Arizona.
Bernadette and her helpers set the tables with small globes and brightly-colored flags from nations of the world as centerpieces.
Representatives from the Players Club, Elizabeth, Gayle, and Clair visited to invite our members to participate in Light Up Kings Ridge 2025. They recognized our cast and reminded us of how much fun we all had at last year’s “The Twelve Days of Midwest”. They announced this year’s theme, Cruising, and stressed their offer to help us in any way necessary. After their visit, we received a couple of good suggestions from our members!
This was our last luncheon before summer break but don’t think we’re going to be idle as we have big plans for not only the rest of 2025 but also for early 2026! See our website at KRMidwest.com. I announced that the terms of all of the club’s officers will end at the end of 2025 so anyone interested in running for any position please contact me. Currently,
the Vice President position is vacant. We said our “goodbyes” to the remaining SnowBirds and also to our beloved Nancy and Ken Brown who are moving permanently back to Wisconsin. They will be missed tremendously.
Our member, Deb Fisher, beautifully led us in singing “God Bless America” and sent us off for the summer filled with pride and appreciation for where we live with all its blessings.
See you in September!
Shirley
