The Midwest Club’s First Oktoberfest

The Midwest Club’s first Oktoberfest landed exactly where it was supposed to: in a full East Wing, with brats on the table and a room that looked more like a beer garden than a clubhouse.

Saturday, October 3, drew a strong turnout of Midwesterners, guests, and new members. The club supplied the brats and franks; members filled in the sides. Together, the spread looked like a proper German picnic, only with better air-conditioning than Munich usually offers.

Deb and Dave kept the East Wing moving with live music and a Bavarian twist. Polka lessons pulled in people who had never tried a step, sturdy shoes or not. Trivia filled the gaps between songs.

Special thanks to our hosts for the evening, Sherri Perkins and Dennis Cole; Deb and Dave, who provided great music; Curt and Wendy Johnson for teaching even the two-left-foot crowd to Polka; and Ron Hand for the great photo memories displayed in our album below.

Dirndls and lederhosen showed up. So did smiles, side dishes, and appetites, which was all anyone really needed.

Thanks to everyone who came, cooked, danced, or just stayed for the company. First Oktoberfest, done. The barrels are already looking forward to the next one.
